The Indian Cricket Board (ICB) is all set to hold its first-ever Women’s Premier League (WPL) Auction next week.

Cricket is something people in India are extremely connected with and there is great hype about it. Both men’s and women’s teams are performing in this major sport.

Women’s cricket is extremely important as it provides equal opportunities for women to showcase their talents and pursue their passion for the sport. Secondly, it helps to promote gender equality in sports and in society as a whole.

The announcement of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) Auction comes as a major step forward in the growth and development of women’s Indian cricket.

According to the reports about the Women’s Premier League (WPL) Auction,

“Five teams participating in the first Women’s Premier League Twenty20 cricket tournament will compete for the rights to sign 409 cricketers from across the world. The important process will take place next week. The BCCI has earned $572.5 million from the team ownership proposals for the league, which is set to take place from March 4 to March 26 in Mumbai.”

Furthermore,

“A maximum of 90 player spots are available among the five teams participating in the WPL, with 30 of those designated for overseas players. The base auction price for several top women cricketers, including India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana, as well as Deepti Sharma and Australian player Ellyse Perry, is approximately $60,000.  The start of the WPL is historic and signifies the start of a new era for women’s Indian cricket.”

The women’s Premier League (WLI) Auction process of signing will be similar to the men’s Indian Premier League (IPL).
