Italy is calling for strong gig economy rules at the G20 summit

Italy is hosting the G20 summit this year and is calling for strong gig economy rules. The gig economy is established on flexible, impermanent, or freelance jobs that frequently encompass connections with consumers or customers through an online or digital platform.

The gig economy can assist workforces, productions, businesses and commerce, and, consumers by the assembly of exertion more adaptable to the needs of the moment and the demand for flexible lifestyles.

The gig economy is a labor market completed of stop-gap occupations, contracted or freelance work, as opposed to permanent, in-house jobs. The terminology of gig originates from the artistic world where it denotes employment that only lasts for a certain period.

Italy is Italy hosting the G20 summit and is calling for strong gig economy rules (An intergovernmental forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union) and will call for harsher gig economy directions.

June 20, 2021, at 10:07 a.m. Rome Italy will call for tougher rules leading gig economy workers when it multitudes labor ministers of the world’s biggest economies in the Group of 20 next week.

Italy’s labor minister, Andrea Orlando, said about gig economy rules,

“Italy will call for tougher rules governing gig economy workers when it hosts labor ministers of the world’s biggest economies in the Group of 20 next week. Countries should require big companies such as Amazon to take responsibility for working conditions at their suppliers, as part of reforms to ensure contractors are well-treated.”

Orlando further said,

“Large corporations must also take responsibility for small ones. They can no longer say that what happens outside their sheds does not concern them.”

In the global healthcare COVID-19 pandemic, the world was captivated by homes, Lockdowns, and remote work, and freelancing has augmented ultimatums for unpremeditated workers such as food delivery drivers, while cleaners and care workers have faced health and safety risks.

The G20 summit is customary to recommend a European Union extensive regulatory framework by the end of the year and courts and regulators have sought to address perceived shortcomings in the gig economy.

The G20 summit will also take place amongst public anger in Italy over the death of a trade unionist killed on Friday by a truck driver during a demonstration against job losses at U.S. logistics company FedEx.

Orlando said

“It was a challenge to enforce trade union rules on platforms based abroad, but this should not give companies an excuse to avoid employment standards. It is no coincidence that it will be the subject of the G20 summit.”

Trade unions are accusing outsourcing and the usage of workforce management algorithms on international platforms of the destruction of rights and wages.

In a gig economy, there is an immense quantity of people working in part-time or temporary positions or as independent contractors and the completion of a gig economy rules is more economical, more productive services, such as Uber or Airbnb, for those willing to use them.

There is the majority of People who don’t use technology such as the Internet are left behind by the benefits of the gig economy. Businesses and HR tend to have the most highly developed services and are the most entrenched in the gig economy.

In the modern digital world, it’s becoming increasingly common for people to work remotely or from home. This trend accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, gig economy rules are extremely important.
