England’s Football Association and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson have been found guilty of the online Racial abuse of England players resulting from the team’s penalty shoot-out loss to Italy in the Euro 2020 final.
On Sunday the sides drew 1-1 after extra time and Italy won the shoot-out 3-2, with England players Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Bukayo Saka, who are all Black, missing spot-kicks. For the Euro 2020, Italy has put the finishing touch to European champions, again and has been crowned.
United Kingdom report disagrees with systemic racism that has been playing part in the instigation of the angry reaction.
The Football Association has intensely denounced all procedures of Racial abuse of England players and is appalled by the online racism that has been aimed at some of our England players on social media due to the lost penalty shots.
The team tweeted,
“We could not be clearer that anyone behind such disgusting behavior is not welcome in following the team. We will do all we can to support the players affected by racial abuse of England players while urging the toughest punishments possible for anyone responsible. We’re disgusted that some of our squad who have given everything for the shirt this summer have been subjected to discriminatory abuse online after tonight’s game.”
The England team has also condemned the abuse directed at its players on social media.
England’s player Bukayo Saka was looking disappointed and sad after dropping the penalty shootout and their teammates console him.
Prime Minister Johnson tweeted,
“Those responsible for this appalling abuse should be ashamed of themselves. The team deserved to be lauded as heroes.”
There are hired a police team for the investigation of the Racist and heartbreaking tweets.
British police said,
“We would investigate the racist posts against the players. We are aware of several offensives and racist social media comments being directed toward footballers following the #Euro2020 final. This abuse is unacceptable, it will not be tolerated and it will be investigated.”
Several people in the limelight stood along with the players and showed immense support to the team.
This incident of racism has divulged a superior societal problem of racism in sports and online that has been deteriorating the spirits of sports and players.
The team’s manager Gareth Southgate said.
“The online racial abuse of some England players following Sunday’s Euro 2020 final defeat by Italy is unforgivable and just not what we stand for. For some of them to be abused is unforgivable. Some of it has come from abroad, we have been told this, but some of it is from this country. We have been a beacon of light to bring people together and the national team stands for everybody. We felt the energy and positivity from the fans and I’m incredibly proud of that.”
Players and sports activities must not become the victim of abuse like the example of Racial abuse of England players since these issues can have devastating impacts on players’ mental health, and well-being in society.
The supervisory structure is needed to advance the accountability of user-generated content, market innovation, and competition requires further international collaboration.
Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Bukayo Saka were targeted on social media after they missed penalties in the 3-2 shootout defeat at Wembley Stadium.
There are taken efforts to address online safety in different regions, but there is more to be done at a global level to help address all forms of abuse and harmful content online.
Sports organizations must use the opportunity to first educate about stopping the Racial abuse of England players and stimulate, educate, and express positive views to fans and make them understand to treat the players and celebrities as humans.
